WHAT CAUSES SNORING?
Snoring is caused when the soft tissues of the throat relax during sleep and block the passage of air. As the air moves through the constricted area, the soft tissues vibrate and rattle, producing the distinctive sound known as "snoring." HOW IS SNORING AND SLEEP APNEA TREATED?
For snoring and mild to moderate apnea an oral appliance is indicated and recommended by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. The appliance brings the lower jaw forward and thereby opens the airway.
